Finland's foreign trade with France, exports to France and imports from France in August 2026

The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program.

Trade with France represented in August of 2026 2.0 per cent share of Finland's foreign trade in goods, 2.3 % of Finland's exports and 1.8 % of imports. In August France was Finland's 13. largest foreign trade partner. Weakening from the previous month was 4 places. The month's €276 million trade in goods was 5.5 per cent lower than in August of the previous year. During the month, the balance of trade with France was €13 million of surplus.

The value of imports from France decreased by 9.3 per cent compared to August of the previous year, thus amounting to €131 million in August 2026. Major product categories of imports from France were Sitc 781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), representing 8.2 per cent of imports, Sitc 553 (perfumery, cosmetic or toilet preparations (excluding soaps)) 5.1 % and Sitc 542 (medicaments (including veterinary medicaments)) 4.3 % of the imports.

The value of exports to France declined by 1.7 per cent compared to August of the previous year, thus amounting to €145 million in August 2026. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc 641 (paper and paperboard), which represented a share of 10.3 per cent of total exports, Sitc 682 (copper) 4.4 % and Sitc 722 (tractors (other than those of headings 744.14 and 744.15)) 3.7 % of the exports.

Development during January-August 2026

During January-August trade in goods with France has grown slower than Finnish trade in goods with the rest of the world. During January-August, the value of trade in goods between the two countries rose to €2.9 billion. Growth compared to the corresponding period of the previous year was 2.7 percent. During January-August the value of imports was €1.4 billion. The export value was €1.5 billion. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the value of imports increased by 2.7 % and the value of exports by 2.7 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc 542 (medicaments (including veterinary medicaments)), worth €105 million. In export the largest value had Sitc 641 (paper and paperboard), worth being €142 million. The trade balance between Finland and France between January and August was in surplus for Finland. The timing surplus was €156 million.
