USA's foreign trade with China, exports to China and imports from China in February 2025

The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program.

China's share of USA's foreign trade in goods in February 2025 represented a share of 9.2 per cent. Share of USA's that month's exports was 6.2 % and 11.0 % of imports. In February China was USA's third most important foreign trade partner. Most of the value of trade between the countries consists of the import to USA. $42.1 billion worth of trade was 4.1 per cent lower than in February of the previous year. In February the trade balance with China was $21.2 billion in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from China decreased by 0.8 per cent compared to in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $31.6 billion in February 2025. Major product categories of imports from China were Sitc764 (telecommunications equipment, n.e.s., and parts, n.e.s., and accessories of apparatus falling within division 76), representing 11.5 percent of imports, Sitc778 (electrical machinery and apparatus, n.e.s.) 6.4 % and Sitc752 (automatic data-processing machines and units thereof; magnetic or optical readers, machines for transcribing data onto data media in coded form and machines for processing such data, n.e.s.) 5.7 % of the imports.

The value of exports to China declined by 12.9 per cent compared to in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $10.5 billion in February 2025. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc792 (aircraft and associated equipment; spacecraft (including satellites) and spacecraft launch vehicles; parts thereof), which represented a share of 14.8 per cent of total exports, Sitc776 (thermionic, cold cathode or photo-cathode valves and tubes (e.g., vacuum or vapour or gas-filled valves and tubes, mercury arc rectifying valves and tubes, cathode-ray tubes, television camera tubes); diodes, transistors and similar semiconductor dev) 10.1 % and Sitc541 (medicinal and pharmaceutical products, other than medicaments of group 542) 6.6 % of the exports.

Development during January-February 2025

During January-February trade in goods with China has grown slower than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During January-February, the value of trade in goods between the two countries rose to $93.6 billion. Growth compared to the corresponding period of the previous year was 2.0 percent. During January-February the value of imports was $73.3 billion. The export value was $20.4 billion. Compared to the corresponding period in 2024, the value of imports during this period increased by 8.3 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc764 (telecommunications equipment, n.e.s., and parts, n.e.s., and accessories of apparatus falling within division 76), worth $8.8 billion. In export the largest value had Sitc792 (aircraft and associated equipment; spacecraft (including satellites) and spacecraft launch vehicles; parts thereof), worth being $2.6 billion. The value of exports during this period decreased by 15.5 %. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-February remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $52.9 billion. The trade deficit continued to widen compared to the corresponding period in 2024. At that time, the deficit was $43.6 billion.
