USA's foreign trade with Viet Nam, exports to Viet Nam and imports from Viet Nam in February 2025


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program.

In February 2025 Viet Nam represented 2.8 per cent of USA's foreign trade in goods, 0.6 % of USA's exports and 4.1 % of imports. In February Viet Nam was USA's 11. most important foreign trade partner. Most of the value of trade between the countries consists of the import to USA. Amounting trade to worth of $12.9 billion was 23.5 per cent bigger than in February of the previous year. In February the trade balance with Viet Nam was $10.9 billion in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Viet Nam was 24.2 per cent higher than in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $11.9 billion. Major product categories of imports from Viet Nam were Sitc764 (telecommunications equipment, n.e.s., and parts, n.e.s., and accessories of apparatus falling within division 76), representing 20.6 percent of imports, Sitc752 (automatic data-processing machines and units thereof; magnetic or optical readers, machines for transcribing data onto data media in coded form and machines for processing such data, n.e.s.) 12.3 % and Sitc821 (furniture and parts thereof; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings) 9.3 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Viet Nam were 16.1 percent higher than in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $1.0 billion. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc263 (cotton), which represented a share of 13.1 per cent of total exports, Sitc776 (thermionic, cold cathode or photo-cathode valves and tubes (e.g., vacuum or vapour or gas-filled valves and tubes, mercury arc rectifying valves and tubes, cathode-ray tubes, television camera tubes); diodes, transistors and similar semiconductor dev) 11.7 % and Sitc044 (maize (not including sweet corn), unmilled) 6.6 % of the exports.

Significant increase in trade in goods in early 2025

During January-February, trade in goods with Viet Nam has grown faster than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During this year trade in goods between countries was significantly higher than in January-February of the previous year. Growth was as high as 29.1 per cent and the value of the trade increased to $26.9 billion. During January-February the value of imports was $24.9 billion. The export value was $2.0 billion. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the value of imports increased by 30.2 % and the value of exports by 16.8 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc764 (telecommunications equipment, n.e.s., and parts, n.e.s., and accessories of apparatus falling within division 76), worth $4.9 billion. In export the largest value had Sitc776 (thermionic, cold cathode or photo-cathode valves and tubes (e.g., vacuum or vapour or gas-filled valves and tubes, mercury arc rectifying valves and tubes, cathode-ray tubes, television camera tubes); diodes, transistors and similar semiconductor dev), worth being $237 million. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-February remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $22.9 billion. The trade deficit continued to widen compared to the corresponding period in 2024. At that time, the deficit was $17.5 billion.
