USA's foreign trade with Mexico, exports to Mexico and imports from Mexico in February 2025


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program.

In February Mexico was USA's most important foreign trade partner. In February 2025 Mexico represented 15.0 per cent of USA's foreign trade in goods, 16.0 % of USA's exports and 14.4 % of imports. Amounting trade to worth of $68.4 billion was 2.0 per cent bigger than in February of the previous year. In February the trade balance with Mexico was $14.9 billion in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Mexico was 3.5 per cent higher than in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $41.6 billion. Major product categories of imports from Mexico were Sitc752 (automatic data-processing machines and units thereof; magnetic or optical readers, machines for transcribing data onto data media in coded form and machines for processing such data, n.e.s.), representing 13.1 percent of imports, Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars) 8.6 % and Sitc784 (parts and accessories of the motor vehicles of groups 722, 781, 782 and 783) 7.0 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Mexico declined by 0.1 per cent compared to in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $26.8 billion in February 2025. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), which represented a share of 8.1 per cent of total exports, Sitc784 (parts and accessories of the motor vehicles of groups 722, 781, 782 and 783) 6.5 % and Sitc759 (parts and accessories (other than covers, carrying cases and the like) suitable for use solely or principally with machines falling withing groups 751 and 752) 4.5 % of the exports.

Development during January-February 2025

During January-February trade in goods with Mexico has grown slower than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During January-February, the value of trade in goods between the two countries rose to $138.0 billion. Growth compared to the corresponding period of the previous year was 4.9 percent. During January-February the value of imports was $83.3 billion. The export value was $54.7 billion. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the value of imports increased by 6.4 % and the value of exports by 2.7 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc752 (automatic data-processing machines and units thereof; magnetic or optical readers, machines for transcribing data onto data media in coded form and machines for processing such data, n.e.s.), worth $10.6 billion. In export the largest value had Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), worth being $4.8 billion. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-February remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $28.6 billion. The trade deficit continued to widen compared to the corresponding period in 2024. At that time, the deficit was $25.0 billion.
