Finland's foreign trade with United Kingdom, exports to United Kingdom and imports from United Kingdom in August 2026


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program.

Trade with United Kingdom represented in August of 2026 2.5 per cent share of Finland's foreign trade in goods, 2.9 % of Finland's exports and 2.1 % of imports. In August United Kingdom was Finland's tenth largest foreign trade partner. Rise from the previous month 2 places. Amounting trade to worth of €339 million was 12.4 per cent bigger than in August of the previous year. During the month, the balance of trade with United Kingdom was €25 million of surplus.

The value of imports from United Kingdom was 61.2 per cent higher than in August of the previous year, thus amounting now to €157 million. Major product categories of imports from United Kingdom were Sitc 714 (engines and motors, non-electric (other than those of groups 712, 713 and 718); parts, n.e.s., of these engines and motors), representing 21.4 per cent of imports, Sitc 334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar) 7.5 % and Sitc 781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars) 7.3 % of the imports.

The value of exports to United Kingdom declined by 10.9 per cent compared to August of the previous year, thus amounting to €182 million in August 2026. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc 641 (paper and paperboard), which represented a share of 19.7 per cent of total exports, Sitc 248 (wood, simply worked, and railway sleepers of wood) 9.2 % and Sitc 728 (other machinery and equipment specialized for particular industries; parts thereof, n.e.s.) 5.1 % of the exports.

Development during January-August 2026

During January-August trade in goods with United Kingdom has grown slower than Finnish trade in goods with the rest of the world. During January-August, the value of trade in goods between the two countries rose to €2.8 billion. Growth compared to the corresponding period of the previous year was 6.8 percent. During January-August the value of imports was €1.1 billion. The export value was €1.7 billion. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the value of imports increased by 18.4 % and the value of exports by 0.7 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc 781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), worth €95 million. In export the largest value had Sitc 641 (paper and paperboard), worth being €286 million. The trade balance between Finland and United Kingdom between January and August was in surplus for Finland. The timing surplus was €651 million.
