Finland's foreign trade with Belgium, exports to Belgium and imports from Belgium in August 2026

The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program.

In August Belgium was Finland's 11. largest foreign trade partner. Trade with Belgium represented in August of 2026 2.4 per cent share of Finland's foreign trade in goods, 3.2 % of Finland's exports and 1.6 % of imports. The month's €323 million trade in goods was 7.7 per cent lower than in August of the previous year. The trade balance with Belgium during the review month was very favorable for Finland. The surplus was €88 million.

The value of imports from Belgium decreased by 28.0 per cent compared to August of the previous year, thus amounting to €117 million in August 2026. Major product categories of imports from Belgium were Sitc 541 (medicinal and pharmaceutical products, other than medicaments of group 542), representing 12.3 per cent of imports, Sitc 334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar) 10.6 % and Sitc 542 (medicaments (including veterinary medicaments)) 7.6 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Belgium were 10.0 percent higher than in August of the previous year, thus amounting to €206 million. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc 334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), which represented a share of 25.5 per cent of total exports, Sitc 641 (paper and paperboard) 15.1 % and Sitc 335 (residual petroleum products, n.e.s., and related materials) 9.5 % of the exports.

Development during January-August 2026

During January-August 2026, the value of trade in goods between countries was lower than during the corresponding period in the previous year. The value of the trade was €2.7 billion, a decrease of 4.4 %. During January-August the value of imports was €1.0 billion. The export value was €1.7 billion. Compared to the corresponding period in 2025, the value of imports decreased by 10.5 % and the value of exports by 0.5 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc 541 (medicinal and pharmaceutical products, other than medicaments of group 542), worth €84 million. In export the largest value had Sitc 334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), worth being €349 million. The trade balance between Finland and Belgium between January and August was in surplus for Finland. The timing surplus was €691 million.
