Finland's foreign trade with Austria, exports to Austria and imports from Austria in August 2026

The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program.

In August 2026 Austria represented 0.8 per cent of Finland's foreign trade in goods, 0.8 % of Finland's exports and 0.9 % of imports. In August Austria was Finland's 28. largest foreign trade partner. Weakening from the previous month was 2 places. Amounting trade to worth of €115 million was 26.5 per cent bigger than in August of the previous year. In August the trade balance with Austria was €14 million in deficit for Finland.

The value of imports from Austria was 12.7 per cent higher than in August of the previous year, thus amounting now to €64 million. Major product categories of imports from Austria were Sitc 791 (railway vehicles (including hovertrains) and associated equipment), representing 9.4 per cent of imports, Sitc 541 (medicinal and pharmaceutical products, other than medicaments of group 542) 8.8 % and Sitc 725 (paper mill and pulp mill machinery, paper-cutting machines and other machinery for the manufacture of paper articles; parts thereof) 8.1 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Austria were 49.7 percent higher than in August of the previous year, thus amounting to €51 million. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc 771 (electric power machinery (other than rotating electric plant of group 716) and parts thereof), which represented a share of 11.5 per cent of total exports, Sitc 641 (paper and paperboard) 9.5 % and Sitc 248 (wood, simply worked, and railway sleepers of wood) 7.2 % of the exports.

Development during January-August 2026

During January-August trade in goods with Austria has grown slower than Finnish trade in goods with the rest of the world. During January-August, the value of trade in goods between the two countries rose to €862 million. Growth compared to the corresponding period of the previous year was 9.9 percent. During January-August the value of imports was €479 million. The export value was €383 million. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the value of imports increased by 6.2 % and the value of exports by 15.0 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc 541 (medicinal and pharmaceutical products, other than medicaments of group 542), worth €34 million. In export the largest value had Sitc 248 (wood, simply worked, and railway sleepers of wood), worth being €35 million. From Finland's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-August remained in deficit. The trade deficit was €97 million. The trade deficit narrowed compared to the corresponding period in 2025. At that time, the deficit was €119 million.
