USA's foreign trade with Iraq, exports to Iraq and imports from Iraq in February 2025


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program.

In February Iraq was USA's 61. most important foreign trade partner. Weakening from the previous month was 4 places. Amounting trade to worth of $512 million was 15.7 per cent bigger than in February of the previous year. In February the trade balance with Iraq was $223 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Iraq was 5.0 per cent higher than in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $368 million. The main part of the import value came from 333 (Sitc petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude) imports, this representing 93.3 percent of total imports. The second major category of imports was Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), corresponding to the share of 5.5 per cent of imports.

Exports to Iraq grew strongly over the previous year's February. The value of exports was $144 million. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), which represented a share of 25.8 per cent of total exports, Sitc042 (rice) 20.9 % and Sitc743 (pumps (other than pumps for liquids), air or other gas compressors and fans; ventilating or recycling hoods incorporating a fan, whether or not fitted with filters; centrifuges; filtering or purifying apparatus; parts thereof) 4.3 % of the exports.

Development during January-February 2025

During January-February trade in goods with Iraq has grown slower than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During January-February, the value of trade in goods between the two countries rose to $1.2 billion. Growth compared to the corresponding period of the previous year was 3.2 percent. During January-February the value of imports was $932 million. The export value was $248 million. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the value of imports increased by 3.8 % and the value of exports by 1.3 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude), worth $785 million. In export the largest value had Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), worth being $62 million. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-February remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $684 million. The trade deficit continued to widen compared to the corresponding period in 2024. At that time, the deficit was $653 million.
