USA's foreign trade with Romania, exports to Romania and imports from Romania in February 2025


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program.

In February Romania was USA's 70. most important foreign trade partner. Improvement from the previous month was 3 places. Most of the value of trade between the countries consists of the import to USA. Trade in goods between the countries of the month was considerably lower than in in February of the previous year. The value of the trade was $363 million and the drop was 11.4 %. In February the trade balance with Romania was $191 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Romania decreased by 11.9 per cent compared to in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $277 million in February 2025. Major product categories of imports from Romania were Sitc672 (ingots and other primary forms, of iron or steel; semi-finished products of iron or steel), representing 9.2 percent of imports, Sitc778 (electrical machinery and apparatus, n.e.s.) 8.5 % and Sitc772 (electrical apparatus for switching or protecting electrical circuits or for making connections to or in electrical circuits (e.g., switches, relays, fuses, lightning arresters, voltage limiters, surge suppressors, plugs and sockets, lamp-holders and) 6.5 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Romania declined by 10.0 per cent compared to in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $86 million in February 2025. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc874 (measuring, checking, analysing and controlling instruments and apparatus, n.e.s.), which represented a share of 11.7 per cent of total exports, Sitc792 (aircraft and associated equipment; spacecraft (including satellites) and spacecraft launch vehicles; parts thereof) 8.9 % and Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars) 6.9 % of the exports.

Development during January-February 2025

The trade in goods between January and February of 2025 was of lesser value than in the corresponding period of the previous year. The value of the trade was $724 million, down 12.3 %. During January-February the value of imports was $561 million. The export value was $163 million. Compared to the corresponding period in 2024, the value of both imports and exports decreased significantly. The decline in imports was 10.0 % and in the value of exports 19.4 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc672 (ingots and other primary forms, of iron or steel; semi-finished products of iron or steel), worth $50 million. In export the largest value had Sitc874 (measuring, checking, analysing and controlling instruments and apparatus, n.e.s.), worth being $20 million. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-February remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $399 million. The trade deficit narrowed compared to the corresponding period in 2024. At that time, the deficit was $423 million.
