USA's foreign trade with Russia, exports to Russia and imports from Russia in February 2025


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program.

In February Russia was USA's 68. most important foreign trade partner. Improvement from the previous month was 18 places. Most of the value of trade between the countries consists of the import to USA. Amounting trade to worth of $389 million was 20.3 per cent bigger than in February of the previous year. In February the trade balance with Russia was $290 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Russia was 18.0 per cent higher than in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $340 million. Major product categories of imports from Russia were Sitc562 (fertilizers (other than those of group 272)), representing 31.2 percent of imports, Sitc525 (radioactive and associated materials) 31.1 % and Sitc681 (silver, platinum and other metals of the platinum group) 27.0 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Russia were 38.6 percent higher than in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $50 million. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc541 (medicinal and pharmaceutical products, other than medicaments of group 542), which represented a share of 49.1 per cent of total exports, Sitc872 (instruments and appliances, n.e.s., for medical, surgical, dental or veterinary purposes) 9.3 % and Sitc098 (edible products and preparations, n.e.s.) 8.5 % of the exports.

Development during January-February 2025

During January-February trade in goods with Russia has grown slower than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During January-February, the value of trade in goods between the two countries rose to $621 million. Growth compared to the corresponding period of the previous year was 3.8 percent. During January-February the value of imports was $536 million. The export value was $85 million. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the value of imports increased by 0.7 % and the value of exports by 28.6 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc562 (fertilizers (other than those of group 272)), worth $191 million. In export the largest value had Sitc541 (medicinal and pharmaceutical products, other than medicaments of group 542), worth being $39 million. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-February remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $451 million. The trade deficit narrowed compared to the corresponding period in 2024. At that time, the deficit was $466 million.
