USA's foreign trade with Switzerland, exports to Switzerland and imports from Switzerland in February 2025


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program.

In February 2025 Switzerland represented 4.9 per cent of USA's foreign trade in goods, 1.3 % of USA's exports and 6.9 % of imports. In February Switzerland was USA's fourth most important foreign trade partner. Most of the value of trade between the countries consists of the import to USA. Amounting trade to worth of $22.1 billion was 245.8 per cent bigger than in February of the previous year. In February the trade balance with Switzerland was $17.7 billion in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Switzerland was 531.5 per cent higher than in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $19.9 billion. The main part of the import value came from 897 (Sitc jewellery, goldsmiths' and silversmiths' wares, and other articles of precious or semiprecious materials, n.e.s.) imports, this representing 80.5 percent of total imports.

The value of exports to Switzerland declined by 32.2 per cent compared to in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $2.2 billion in February 2025. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc971 (gold,non-monetary), which represented a share of 37.9 per cent of total exports, Sitc541 (medicinal and pharmaceutical products, other than medicaments of group 542) 16.2 % and Sitc792 (aircraft and associated equipment; spacecraft (including satellites) and spacecraft launch vehicles; parts thereof) 9.3 % of the exports.

Significant increase in trade in goods in early 2025

During January-February, trade in goods with Switzerland has grown faster than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During this year trade in goods between countries was significantly higher than in January-February of the previous year. Growth was as high as 259.9 per cent and the value of the trade increased to $47.6 billion. During January-February the value of imports was $43.8 billion. The export value was $3.9 billion. Compared to the corresponding period in 2024, the value of imports during this period increased by 493.5 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc897 (jewellery, goldsmiths' and silversmiths' wares, and other articles of precious or semiprecious materials, n.e.s.), worth $35.0 billion. In export the largest value had Sitc971 (gold,non-monetary), worth being $1.2 billion. The value of exports during this period decreased by 33.7 %. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-February remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $39.9 billion. The trade deficit continued to widen compared to the corresponding period in 2024. At that time, the deficit was $1.5 billion.
