USA's foreign trade with Ireland, exports to Ireland and imports from Ireland in February 2025


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program.

Trade with Ireland represented in February of 2025, 3.6 per cent share of USA's foreign trade in goods, 0.8 % of USA's exports and 5.3 % of imports. In February Ireland was USA's seventh most important foreign trade partner. Most of the value of trade between the countries consists of the import to USA. Amounting trade to worth of $16.6 billion was 113.6 per cent bigger than in February of the previous year. In February the trade balance with Ireland was $14.0 billion in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Ireland was 134.0 per cent higher than in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $15.3 billion. More than half of the value of imports was in Sitc541 (medicinal and pharmaceutical products, other than medicaments of group 542) representing a share of 71.5 per cent. Other major categories of imports were Sitc542 (medicaments (including veterinary medicaments)), 8.3 per cent of imports and Sitc515 (organo-inorganic compounds, heterocyclic compounds, nucleic acids and their salts, and sulphonamides) 5.6 %.

The value of exports to Ireland were 4.5 percent higher than in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $1.3 billion. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc541 (medicinal and pharmaceutical products, other than medicaments of group 542), which represented a share of 24.4 per cent of total exports, Sitc542 (medicaments (including veterinary medicaments)) 8.2 % and Sitc792 (aircraft and associated equipment; spacecraft (including satellites) and spacecraft launch vehicles; parts thereof) 4.8 % of the exports.

Significant increase in trade in goods in early 2025

During January-February, trade in goods with Ireland has grown faster than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During this year trade in goods between countries was significantly higher than in January-February of the previous year. Growth was as high as 91.4 per cent and the value of the trade increased to $31.4 billion. During January-February the value of imports was $28.9 billion. The export value was $2.5 billion. Compared to the corresponding period in 2024, the value of imports during this period increased by 108.8 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc541 (medicinal and pharmaceutical products, other than medicaments of group 542), worth $20.9 billion. In export the largest value had Sitc541 (medicinal and pharmaceutical products, other than medicaments of group 542), worth being $669 million. The value of exports during this period decreased by 2.0 %. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-February remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $26.4 billion. The trade deficit continued to widen compared to the corresponding period in 2024. At that time, the deficit was $11.3 billion.
