Finland's foreign trade with Canada, exports to Canada and imports from Canada in August 2026


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program.

In August Canada was Finland's 19. largest foreign trade partner. Weakening from the previous month was 3 places. Trade with Canada represented in August of 2026 1.3 per cent share of Finland's foreign trade in goods, 1.2 % of Finland's exports and 1.4 % of imports. Amounting trade to worth of €176 million was 93.8 per cent bigger than in August of the previous year. For Finland, the trade balance with Canada was in considerable deficit in August. The amount of the month's deficit was €29 million.

The value of imports from Canada was 263.5 per cent higher than in August of the previous year, thus amounting now to €103 million. Major product categories of imports from Canada were Sitc 283 (copper ores and concentrates; copper mattes; cement copper), representing 43.3 per cent of imports, Sitc 284 (nickel ores and concentrates; nickel mattes, nickel oxide sinters and other intermediate products of nickel metallurgy) 30.8 % and Sitc 542 (medicaments (including veterinary medicaments)) 4.9 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Canada were 17.2 percent higher than in August of the previous year, thus amounting to €73 million. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc 723 (civil engineering and contractors' plant and equipment; parts thereof), which represented a share of 17.7 per cent of total exports, Sitc 711 (steam or other vapour-generating boilers, superheated water boilers, and auxiliary plant for use therewith; parts thereof) 13.6 % and Sitc 625 (rubber tyres, interchangeable tyre treads, tyre flaps and inner tubes for wheels of all kinds) 8.0 % of the exports.

Significant increase in trade in goods between Finland and Canada in early 2026

During January-August, trade in goods with Canada has grown faster than Finnish trade in goods with the rest of the world. During this year trade in goods between countries was significantly higher than in January-August of the previous year. Growth was as high as 40.8 per cent and the value of the trade increased to €1.3 billion. During January-August the value of imports was €610 million. The export value was €671 million. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the value of imports increased by 68.4 % and the value of exports by 22.5 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc 283 (copper ores and concentrates; copper mattes; cement copper), worth €156 million. In export the largest value had Sitc 723 (civil engineering and contractors' plant and equipment; parts thereof), worth being €97 million. The trade balance between Finland and Canada between January and August was in surplus for Finland. The timing surplus was €60 million.
