Finland's foreign trade with Portugal, exports to Portugal and imports from Portugal in August 2026

In August Portugal was Finland's 33. largest foreign trade partner. Rise from the previous month 7 places. Amounting trade to worth of €65 million was 64.8 per cent bigger than in August of the previous year. For Finland, the trade balance with Portugal was in considerable deficit in August. The amount of the month's deficit was €13 million.

The value of imports from Portugal was 82.3 per cent higher than in August of the previous year, thus amounting now to €39 million. More than half of the value of imports was in Sitc 287 (ores and concentrates of base metals, n.e.s.) representing a share of 59.6 per cent.

The value of exports to Portugal were 43.9 percent higher than in August of the previous year, thus amounting to €26 million. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc 598 (miscellaneous chemical products, n.e.s.), which represented a share of 14.1 per cent of total exports, Sitc 641 (paper and paperboard) 8.5 % and Sitc 251 (pulp and waste paper) 8.3 % of the exports.

Significant increase in trade in goods between Finland and Portugal in early 2026

During January-August, trade in goods with Portugal has grown faster than Finnish trade in goods with the rest of the world. During this year trade in goods between countries was significantly higher than in January-August of the previous year. Growth was as high as 37.4 per cent and the value of the trade increased to €547 million. During January-August the value of imports was €357 million. The export value was €190 million. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the value of imports increased by 65.5 % and the value of exports by 4.2 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc 287 (ores and concentrates of base metals, n.e.s.), worth €117 million. In export the largest value had Sitc 598 (miscellaneous chemical products, n.e.s.), worth being €21 million. From Finland's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-August remained in deficit. The trade deficit was €166 million. The trade deficit continued to widen compared to the corresponding period in 2025. At that time, the deficit was €33 million.
