USA's foreign trade with Iran, exports to Iran and imports from Iran in February 2025


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program.

In February Iran was USA's 169. most important foreign trade partner. Improvement from the previous month was 13 places. Most of the the value of trade consists of USA's exports to Iran. Trade in goods between the countries of the month was considerably lower than in in February of the previous year. The value of the trade was $4.6 million and the drop was 53.0 %. During the month, the balance of trade with Iran was $3.6 million of surplus.

The value of imports from Iran was 37.4 per cent higher than in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $510.1 thousand. The main part of the import value came from 896 (Sitc works of art, collectors' pieces and antiques) imports, this representing 86.6 percent of total imports. The second major category of imports was Sitc892 (printed matter), corresponding to the share of 10.6 per cent of imports.

The value of exports to Iran declined considerably,by 56.6 per cent, compared to in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $4.1 million in February 2025. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc882 (photographic and cinematographic supplies), which represented a share of 25.0 per cent of total exports, Sitc874 (measuring, checking, analysing and controlling instruments and apparatus, n.e.s.) 23.1 % and Sitc872 (instruments and appliances, n.e.s., for medical, surgical, dental or veterinary purposes) 16.1 % of the exports.

A sharp drop in trade in goods in early 2025

During January-February, trade in goods between the two countries declined sharply (-63.1 %) over the same period last year. The value of the trade was $7.5 million. During January-February the value of imports was $598.3 thousand. The export value was $6.9 million. Compared to the corresponding period in 2024, the value of both imports and exports decreased significantly. The decline in imports was 84.2 % and in the value of exports 58.3 %. The largest product group in terms of imports has been Sitc896 (works of art, collectors' pieces and antiques), worth $450.6 thousand. In export the largest value had Sitc872 (instruments and appliances, n.e.s., for medical, surgical, dental or veterinary purposes), worth being $1.8 million. The trade balance between USA and Iranin between January and February was in surplus for USA. The timing surplus was $6.3 million.
